Presentation

The Ajarian ASSR was created in 1921, largely for political reasons. Firstly, it prevented the Georgians from exercising full control over the port of Batumi, and served to encourage supposedly pro-communist elements amongst Ajaris (or Lazis) living on the Turkish side of the border.
Stuart Notholt

Russia occuped Batum 18 March 1921 and the 16 Juny 1921 was created the ASSR into the Georgia SS Republic. Flag own not was adopted since 1937.
Jaume Olle, 17 Nov 1996

Flag history

The flag is red with incriptions in Georgian (Sakarthvelos SSR, two lines), in laze or adjar (theerd line) and russian (fourth line). This flag was used (except for little changes in the transcription of the georgian alphabet) since 1950, when the flags of the autonomus republics of Georgia losed the right to a flag own. In 1978 a flag was restablizhed.
