Description of the flag

Flag of Aeroflot was red with small yellow star in canton and blue triangle near staff, with the emblem of the company in the centre of the triangle. I don’t know when this flag was adopted firstly. But Aviation Code of USSR (26 december 1961) already described it as «civil air fleet flag». The proportions:

  • height : length = 2:1 = 150 cm : 75 cm
  • heght of blue triangle = 40 cm
  • length of blue triangle = 85 cm
  • diameter of star = 8 cm
  • length of emblem = 35 cm
  • distance from staff to emblem = 5 cm

This flag was used very rarely.

We should try to find out if the Pedersen image, showing “realist” hammer, sickle and wings instead of the stylized Aeroflot logo, was an earlier version or simply an erroneous depiction.

Possibly spurious variant

Possibly spurious variant Flag of Aeroflot

A strange flag following Russian and Soviet Air Force ensign pattern (blue and yellow gyronny), with the Aeroflot logo and a red star. This was a real flag, shown at eBay (an auction site), but it seems to be some kind of flag forgery for tourists, as no law about it was passed — real Aeroflot flag(s) are quite different.
António Martins, 26 May 2000

I never saw it. I think it is a hand-made variant, informal. In the end of 1980ths in Moscow many people had profitable business. They sold to foreign tourists different things with soviet symbols: flags, banners, war uniform, orders etc. I saw at that time several fiction selled flags.
