Description of the Flag

NATCHEZ - The Adams County Board of Supervisors adopted an official county logo and flag Monday.

Board President Darryl Grennell said the board decided approximately a year ago to designate a logo for the county, seeking suggested designs from the public. The county received approximately 40 submissions and narrowed it down to two logo and two flag designs. The county chose the flag design by Tim Givens of Natchez, who works as a designer for The Natchez Democrat. The flag is Natchez green, royal blue and white. Cathedral School graduate Jessica Eichman of Nashville, Tenn., designed the winning logo, which will be placed in the center of the flag. " The top of the flag is royal blue and represents the sky, Grennell said. A white curved line in the middle of the flag represents the Mississippi River, and the bottom of the flag is Natchez green. "The idea of the flag is to emphasize the Mississippi River," Grennell said, Cathedral School graduate Jessica Eichman of Nashville, Tenn., designed the winning logo, which will be placed in the center of the flag. The circular logo includes the text "Adams County, Mississippi, Established 1799" wrapped around a depiction of Emerald Mound, the river and a sunrise, which Grennell said represents progress and hope for the future. Three stars included with the text in the logo, Grennell said, represent the three cultures represented in the history of Adams County: Native American, European and African-American.

Grennell said after the meeting the county will have a flag made to display in the board room. He said the logo will be used for various things, including county letterhead and the county's website. Grennell said he is pleased the county has a logo and flag and is happy the designs came from two Natchez natives. I think it's a good way to show the local talent we have here in the community, he said.
