Description of the flag

The Kinston Free Press reported a new flag for Greene County, North Carolina. According to the article:

The new flag is modeled after the colors used by the North Carolina militia and other patriots at the March 15, 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Americans were led at that battle by Gen. Nathaniel Greene, the man for whom Greene County eventually was named. Like the original one used in 1781, Greene County's flag has red and blue stripes. In its upper left corner is a large white field with 13 eight-pointed stars representing the 13 colonies. Some believe the banner used in 1781 was designed by North Carolinians after they learned by word of mouth about the national "Stars and Stripes" banner. The county's version features a blue outline of Greene County amid the stars. Within the county's outline is Greene County's official seal. On the flag's bottom stripe is "Since 1799," denoting the year Greene County was formed from the old Dobbs County.
