Flag of the Town of Lima, New York
The Town of Lima has the rare distinction of having its own custom handmade town flag. It was designed, created, and presented to the town on Memorial Day 1976 by Lima's Quaere Club in honor of the United States Bicentennial. Many designs were considered before three finalists were chosen and reviewed by the Lima Town Board, the Bicentennial Committee and the American Legion who together selected the final design. The green background represents the verdant agricultural fields surrounding Lima, while the two diagonally-crossed yellow lines (the color of
forsythia - Lima's town flower) reflect Lima's designation as the "Crossroads of Western NY." Lima's Town seal with the 1788 date of incorporation is at the center of a white circle symbolizing Lima's lime deposits, another of the town's
historically important resources. The flag was designed by Helen Kreienberg and exquisitely sewn by Evelyn Miller, two Quaere Club members. It presently hangs in the Lima Town Hall.
