Rogers County adopts its first county flag
By RHETT MORGAN World Staff Writer

CLAREMORE - Flying soon just outside the Rogers County Courthouse will be a Rogers County first, a county flag.

Larry Curtis, director of the City of Claremore-Rogers County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, designed the banner with help from Assistant District Attorney Tim Wantland. The pair came up with three choices, and earlier this month county commissioners chose the winning flag. It is royal blue and features the county seal encircled by eight, gold-tipped white stars, representing the eight elected officials in the county.

Only a handful of Oklahoma counties in the state boast flags, including Tulsa, Washington, Bryan and Jackson counties, Wantland said.

Rogers County's idea for one was hatched by the courthouse's art history committee, which noticed that the new courthouse plaza features three flagpoles, Curtis said. The U.S. and state flags would take up two poles, but they needed something to attach to the third.

For the Rogers County version, Curtis and Wantland wanted something to complement the navy blue of the American flag and the sky blue of the Oklahoma banner.

"It's kind of a good segue into the blues," Wantland said. "I think it works."
