Description of the flag

A white flag, fringed gold on three sides, with a green shield bearing a white chevron and three white hammers. Town and state name above, "Incorporated 1731" below.

Smithfield's flag as shown on a web page in 2002 was the green-ringed seal and inscriptions on a fringed white field as seen at the photo at www.smithfieldri.com/council1.jpg. It is not clear if this is an older or alternative flag.
