Description of the flag

Door County encompasses the Door Peninsula of northeastern Wisconsin near Green Bay. The county seat is the city of Sturgeon Bay. According to the county's Wikipedia entry, the county is named after the French name for the dangerous straits around the peninsula - "Porte des Morts," or "Death's Door."

I found the county flag online at www.doorcountybusiness.com/news/china/ (photograph at www.doorcountybusiness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Flag.jpg). The Door County flag shows a logo shaped like a ship's wheel in dark blue on a white field. Below the logo in dark blue capital letters are the words "DOOR COUNTY." The ship's wheel is divided into 11 different sections. The center of the wheel shows a map of the county in dark blue on a white circle. The top two spokes of the wheel are white with blue symbols - what looks like a sled and pole on the left spoke, and a pine tree on the right spoke. The lower two spokes of the wheel are dark blue with white symbols - a teapot on the right spoke and possibly a shoe on the left spoke. The circle of the wheel is divided into six sections, alternating dark blue and white with countercharged symbols. Starting from the top section at what would be the 12 o'clock position, we have:

  • a dark blue factory against a white background, smoke billowing from the stacks toward the hoist;
  • a white lighthouse against a dark blue background;
  • dark blue fruit of some kind against a white background;
  • a white fish, swimming toward the hoist, against a dark blue background;
  • a dark blue barn and what appears to be an office building against a white background;
  • and finally a white sailboat against a dark blue background, sailing toward either the top or bottom of the flag.
