Description of the Flag

I just came across a photograph on the Clarksburg, West Virginia, homepage that shows the city's flag in the background.

The flag appears to be a white St. Andrew's cross on a light blue field, with a red star within a centered white circle. Arched above the circle in white letters is the word "CLARKSBURG." Arched below the circle in white letters are the words "WEST VIRGINIA."
Randy Young, 1 December 1998

According to the book "Clarksburg" by Robert F. Stealey, the City of Clarksburg flag was adopted in 1923, which makes it one of the oldest city flags in US.

"A bright red, five-pointed star, symbolizing the City of Clarksburg, composed of five former towns - served by two intersecting state highways, represented by white bars extending diagonally corner to corner, across a bright blue field, - the bars radiating to the four corners of the flag being likewise symbolic of Clarksburg products distributed to the four corners of the earth, - a further symbolism denoting the star of hope with the sky as the limit, - the colors red, white and blue, being suggestive of the national flag, as allegiance to the City of Clarksburg implies a greater allegiance to the nation" - from Second Annual Report of the City Manager to the City Council in 1923.
