Description of the flag

Roane County, West Virginia occupies 484 sq mi [1254 km], and roughly 15,000 residents. One of a few counties in West Virginia that fly a "county flag". The flag has quite a generic look. White background, seal centered. Thanks to Sue Hamric for the county seal.

Here's the story:
Mr. Johnson: Your e-mail has been forwarded to me by County Clerk Charles White. I am attaching an image of our county logo, which is also utilized on our county flag. Most everything on the logo/flag is self-explanatory; however, some people do not recognize that the emblems on either side of the logo are walnuts, representative of our annual Black Walnut Festival, which is one of the major fairs and festivals held throughout the State of West Virginia.

In 2003 the Roane County Commission sponsored a county-wide contest for design of a county logo. The winning entry was selected in February, 2004, and the commission subsequently applied for, and received, a trademark from the WV Secretary of State in 2005.
