Description of the Flag

The Town of Chapmanville (1,211 inhabitants, 1,800 ha), located deep in the heart of the West Virginia Coalfields and the northernmost municipality in historic Logan County, was recognized as a municipality by the State of West Virginia in 1947. The flag of Chapmanville is orange red with a blue-eyed tiger's face outlined in black and the motto "Can't Hide That Tiger Pride".

This flag is indeed the flag of Chapmanville High School, and in particular of its athletic teams. It is what is generally known as a 'Spirit Flag', designed to whip up school spirit before football and basketball games, when it is waved at pep rallies. It is not unusual for small towns to adopt their school flags, especially these 'spirit flags', as municipal flags, especially if the local high school has won some sort of state or regional championships in the previous few years.
