Description of the flag

Bodie was a gold rush town and is now abandoned. The flag shows there are 38 gold stars, and a red-shirted miner leaning on a shovel, with a bag of gravel on his shoulder.
Frederick Arn Hansson, 24 September 2002

Bodie was a gold rush town in the high desert just east of the Sierra Nevada at an elevation above 8,000 feet. The desert conditions provided benefits for the preservation of many of the buildings and the site is a very interesting California State Historical Park. One of the interesting facts about Bodie is that this was the first town to have electricity brought in from a remote hydro-electric generator plant.
