Description of the flags

Central Michigan University (CMU) is a Michigan State university governed by a governor-appointed Board of Control. Founded in 1892 as Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute (www.thefreedictionary.com/Normal+schools) in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where it remains. The School dropped the Business Institute from its name in 1893. The Michigan State Board of Education in 1895 took over the school with the name changing to Central State Normal School. Before Word War II, the college's name went through 2 name changes to Central State Teachers College (in 1927), then to Central Michigan College of Education (in 1941). In 1955, Central dropped "of Education" from its name. On June 1, 1959, Central was granted university status (post-bachelor degree-granting institution; currently, it hold no such meaning) and was renamed Central Michigan University.
