The Associate Director of Marketing Communications of Genesee Community College in Batavia, New York, has provided information detailing the flag of the college.
The flag was adopted in August 2012 and is well-known the community. It utilizes elements of the College's new logo, which was introduced in 2010 after a two year branding study, representing GCC's core brand essence, "Beyond Expectations." The flag introduces the College's key colors, gold and blue, and it also employees the white swoosh (or the white tornado, as some people refer to it.) GCC's full color logo icon consists of a blue, pointy triangle and a curved gold shape with a rounded corner, which create the 'tornado' which has no containment lines and 'flows' off the page. These three elements together symbolize GCC's mission and unending efforts to go beyond the students' and stakeholders expectations. Structured programs provide the necessary training to earn degrees and certificates (the blue triangle). Faculty and staff care about
students and support them as they pursue their dreams and aspirations (the golden shape with the soft, rounded right corner). Together, they help shape a student's future which, quite rightly - flows out and beyond the page (the white
tornado).
Lettering is written in Futura font. The proportions are 5' x 8'.
Before this flag was introduced, all GCC had was the College seal on the flag.
The flag was designed by the College's senior design staff and approved by the College administration in the summer of 2012. Note that the lower right corner of the flag is rounded like our logo. This was a special order request.
