Only few years ago, unemployment was as high as 80 % and 60 % of the housing was substandard. Today, nobody is on welfare and the future looks really bright. They own Viejas Casino and Outlet Center with the outdoor concert venue featuring top-name entertainment in the summer. It is a popular place for the San Diegans and tourists alike The flags of the Viejas Band are common sight around Alpine, CA.
