The flag of Belfaux was based on the armorial of Fribourg canton dated 1981. The problem is that the new flag of Belfaux, made after the fusion with the commune of Cutterwil, has been adopted this same year but fusion has been achieved in 1977. This was misleading as Cutterwil doesn't appear anymore in the armorial but the flag of Belfaux in this same book is still the old one, and not the one adopted after the fusion.
The new flag of Belfaux features a beech-tree in the shape of a leave making the flag canting as Belfaux comes from Bellus Fagus (fine beech-tree).
