The municipalities of Rantzau Subcounty (Amt Rantzau are gathered around the city of Barmstedt, northwest of the city of Quickborn. According to the local municipal statutes (Hauptsatzungen) the municipalities listed below have no proper flag. Source is given in brackets.
Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a blue flag. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is quarterly divided. The 1st and 4th quarter are divided per pale into red and silver (=white). The 2nd quarter shows in a golden (= yellow) field three black lozenges above right ordered 2:1 and another four lozenge below left ordered 1:2:1. The 3rd quarter shows in a golden (= yellow) field three black lozenges below left ordered 1:2. The whole ensemble is superimposed by a blue bend sinister wavy.
Meaning:
The 1st and 4th quarter are displaying the arms of the counts of Rantzau. The ten lozenges are symbolizing the municipalities of the nowadays subcounty. The bend sinister is symbolizing Krü ckau creek. Three municipalities of the former Lutzhorn district are located on the northern bank, four municipalities of the former Hemdingen district and three municipalities of the former Bevern district on the southern bank. This is symbolized by the arrangement of lozenges.

Description of coat of arms:
The silver (= white) shield is divided by a red bend sinister. Aboveis a blue cross fleury, below a green oak leaf.
Meaning:
The red bend is symbolizing nowadays federal road no.4, the connection between Altona and Kiel, the preceding road had been erected in 1840 as the first "highway" in Schleswig-Holstein. Bilsen belonged from 1385 to 1803 to the domains of Harvestehude Monastery, later St. John's Monastery in Hamburg. This is symbolized by the cross fleury, because the fleur de lis was an attribute of patron saint St.Mary. The leaf is symbolizing the forestal riches of the Bilsener Wohld in the 19th century. The colours red, white and blue are those of Schleswig-Holstein.

Description of flag:
The ratio is 3:5. It is a green flag. The municipal coat of arms is in the centre of the flag. The fess wavy of the coat of arms is continued in yellow colour to both ends of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield is a green, rooted heather plant, blossomed red. On the base are two green oak leaves. The base is separated by a blue fess wavy.
Meaning:
The heather (Latin: calluna vulgaris, Lower German: Heed) is canting. The leaves are symbolizing the forestal riches. The oak is the predominating species. The fess wavy is symbolizing Krückau creek. The yellow colour is symbolizing the local landscape of moraines.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided by a silver (= white) pallet approx. 8:1:1. The bigger, green dexter partition is divided by a silver sinister bend wavy. Above are four silver (= white) tumuli, a bigger one on the dexter chiefpoint, the others alongside the bend. Below is a silver (= white) plough. The sinister partition is divided by a silver (= white) bend into red and blue. The bend is continuing the sinister bend.
Meaning:
Both bends are symbolizing Krückau creek. The tumuli together with the green colour are symbolizing the landscape containing the 4000 years old tombs. The plough is symbolizing agriculture. Finally blue, white and red are the colours of Schleswig-Holstein.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per bend sinister into red and silver (= white). In the red field is a golden (= yellow) sheaf of grain. In the silver field is a blue horn.
Meaning:
The horn is canting. The sheaf is symbolizing agriculture. The colours are those appearing in the coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein. Furthermore red and silver had been the colours of the counts of Rantzau.
