Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red field is an silver(=white) embattled gate flanked by two embattled towers. The central wall of the gate is masoned black. The gate is open and has a golden(=yellow) portcullis. The gate is topped by a shield. The shield is divided per pale. The dexter half shows in a silver(=white) field a red, rampant, double-queued, sinister-facing lion, armed, tongued and crowned blue. The dexter side shows a silver(=white) field divided by a black cross.
Meaning:
The lion is a modification of the arms of the counts and dukes of Berg, the cross is symbolizing the archbishopric and electorate of Köln. According to Ralf Hartemink's webpage the arms reflect the image of the oldest seal of the city.
