The symbols of Matulji are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Matulji, adopted on 1 April 1997 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 11 April 1997 in the County official gazette Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 7.
The Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Matulji, adopted on 10 October 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published the same day in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 24, describe the symbols. The descriptions are repeated in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Matulji, adopted on 9 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 15 July 2009 in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 26.
The ceremonial flag is prescribed to be determined "at a further date".
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Azure a pall argent between three bells or".
Matulji developed as the railway station for Opatija. The pall in the arms probably refers to the importance of transportation for the place.
