Presentation of Rešetari

Rešetari is located some 55 km west of Slavonski Brod. Population is 5,171 according to the 2001 census, 2,672 in the village of the same name, which is today actually a suburbs of Nova Gradiška.
One of the seven villages composing the municipality is named Zapolje, the origin of the old Croatian dynasty carrying the same name, mentioned at least since the 12th century. The most important member of the family was Ivan Zapolja. In the Battle of Mohács in 1526 when the joint Croatian-Hungarian troops were defeated by Turks led by Suleiman the Magnificent, many noblemen died, including the Croatian-Hungarian and Czech king Louis II Jagiellon. This left the Croatian and Hungarian thrones without ruler. In the Cetingrad Assembly, the Croatian nobility (meaning those from western Croatia and Dalmatia) elected the Austrian Archduke Ferdinand I of Habsburg (soon to be elected the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, as well) as the new king on, while the Slavonian and Hungarian nobility elected John Zapolja as the new king. The fighting for the trone lasted over two decades, weakening the defence against the Turks; John actually ruled as counter-king to Ferdinand from 1527 until 1540.

The coat of arms is "Azure seven mullets or, three and three and one, and in chief a Royal crown open argent".
The seven stars stand for the seven villages forming the municipality, while the crown refers to the Croatian-Hungarian king John Zapolja.

Photos of the celebration of the Municipality Day 2011 shows a greyish blue flag with a light blue coat of arms bordered white and charged with a yellow crown.
Whether the change in the symbols was made deliberately and involved some change in legislation, we can only speculate, since the Decisions are not to be found in any official gazette.
