Presentation of Vrpolje

Vrpolje is located about 30 km east of Slavonski Brod, about half way between the highway and Đakovo. It has about 4,000 inhabitants.
Vrpolje is probably best known as the birth place of the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, whose works include number of monumental sculpures and complexes in former Yugoslavia and in the USA, to mention Indians in Chicago, the Unknown Hero tomb on Avala in Belgrade, the Njegoš Mausoleum on Lovćen (shown on the coat of arms of Socialist Montenegro), Grgur Ninski in Split, and the Artists' Pavilion in Zagreb. There is a museum in Vrpolje with large collection of his works, too.

Flag of Vrpolje

The symbols of Vrpolje are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i načinu uporabe grba i zastave općine Vrpolje, adopted on 18 December 1996, and, again, on 17 February 1998, by the Municipality Assembly and published on 24 July 1998 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 6. The text of the Decision follows closely the model of the Decision prescribing the symbols of Slavonski Brod.
The symbols are described in Article 4 of the Municipality Statutes Statut općine Vrpolje, adopted on 18 October 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 15 December 2001 in Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 15. This is repeated in the current Municipality Statutes Statut općine Vrpolje, adopted on 17 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 23 July 2009 in Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 9.

The symbols were designed by Predrag Barišić, from Vrpolje, who kindly provided material used to draw the images shown on this page.

The flag is prescribed in proportions 1:2 and 2:6 [1:3], for horizontal and vertical hoisting, respectively, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle. The size of the coat of arms is 66 cm x 50 cm on a 1 m x 2 m flag

The coat of arms is "Azure, an acorn or between two wheat spikes of the same crossed in base". It is prescribed to have, optionally, the name of the municipality inscribed above the shield.
The elements of the coat of arms represent the most important products of the region - wheat and oak wood.
