The emblem was adopted 8 May 1921.

The city flag was adopted on Feb 28th 1966 by the Municipal Notice No 9.
The green flag is charged with white city emblem in the center.
Chiba City is named after its founder, whose moon and star family crest is now the official city emblem.
In connection with the founder's the Chibas family crest, the emblem also contains the first
of two kanji characters used when writing 'Chiba' which was declared the official city emblem
at its ceremonial founding in 1921.
