The Yamada town emblem is based on a mountain and a rice paddy and was adopted June 1, 1965, according to the Yamada website (link no longer active)

Yamada (山田) means mountain (yama) rice paddy (da), so the emblem is canting. The same page tells us that Yamada Town resulted from the combination of Fuma Town, Yamakura Village and Yazu Village.
