The city emblem was adopted on Dec 16th 2005 by Notice No 116 and the flag was adopted on Dec 20th 2005 by Notice No 118. The white flag has a blue, a light blue and a green three color city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized katakana クマノ Kumano. The blue color stands for a powerful wave of Kumano Sea, the light blue color for a fresh stream as a source for life and the green color for Kumano trails and healing mountains which had captured people from ancient times. It represents an image of the city making a leap for the future. The flag proportion is 2:3.
