The city emblem was adopted on Mar 14th 1963 by Notice No 29 and the flag was adopted on Jun 5th 1973 by Notice No 137. The purple flag has a white or gold city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 北九 KitaKyu. The five flower petals symbolize an unification of the former five cities ,the center star does the industry and the radial arrangement does the city’s development.
The flag proportion is 2: 3. The diameter of the emblem is 3/5 height of the flag
