Municipal Flag

The design was decided in 1979 through a public vote. The background color is a brilliant light blue, which symbolizes water and a clear sky. The city symbol and city tree "paulownia" are arranged in white in the center of the flag. This symbolizes the vital and fresh city, Okawa.

The city emblem was adopted on Jun 15th 1954 and the flag was adopted on Oct 6th 1979. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 大川 Okawa in a form of a flying bird. The blue flag has a white city emblem on the city tree paulownia. The blue color stands for a clear sky and water. The flag proportion is 2: 3.
