Kumamoto / 熊本市

The flag was adopted on Aug 1st 1969 by the city Notice No 40.

The flag proportions are 2:3.

The green flag is charged with a white city emblem in the center which is a stylized hiragana KU く. The round shape represents Kumamoto city which respects unity and develop vigorously to the future on the basis of the harmony of the people.

Yamaga city / 山鹿市

The brown flag was abolished and the new emblem and the flag were adopted on Jan 15th 2005 by Notice No 184 and 185. The maroon new flag has a gold city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 山 Yama of Yamaga in a form of Yamaga garden lantern. It represents a wish for the traditional city to inherit the tradition to shine itself in the future as well. The flag proportion is 2:3.
