The flags of Maatschappij Zeevaart and Hudig
& Veder are one and the same.
Sources vary on the shape of the lettering but the 2nd as shown for
the latter is apparently the correct one coming from the site and is that
shown by the later publications. The relationship is that Hudig & Veder
N.V. were operators, probably owners, of N.V. Maatschappij Zeevaart.
I do not know whether it signifies a change in the flag of Hudig &
Pieters' Algemeene Scheepvaart Maatschappij N.V., but pre WW2 Brown sources
do not show an edging of the white panel from the cross.

N.V. Hudig & Pieters Algemeene Scheepvaart Maatschappij, Rotterdam
Blue with red St. George's Cross; in the center of the field four lying
white blocks, placed on each quarter; in the canton letter "H", in the
center of the cross letter "&", in bottom fly letter "P", all white.

I have a copy of a family book, Die Familie Pieters, published in 1956
(in Dutch) as a limited edition to commemorate 100 years of Hudig &
Pieters. I also hold the English translation of that book. The book itself
is an in depth look at the history of the company focussing on each generation
of the Pieters family directly involved with Hudig and Pieters. I notice
that in contrast to the 'H&P' detailed on your Hudig and Pieters houseflag,
those letters were not commonly displayed on the flag elsewhere.
Certainly they do not appear on the flag displayed on the front cover
of the family book nor on other commemorative items (such as a dinner set).
Last year I met with the last managing partner of the Hudig & Pieters
firm (prior to its merger(take-over) by Dammers in 1970), Ludovicus Johannes
Pieters. The elderly LJ Pieters lives in Rhoon, near Rotterdam - he still
flies the Hudig & Pieters houseflag at his home (see photos attached
- also no H&P displayed(?)).

Hudig & Veder - white with blue letters H&V and a blue five-pointed
star at the hoist.
This flag is nearly identical to the one of Maatschappij Zeevaart;
the differences are different fonts and a darker blue color. So far I have
found no relationship between the two companies. There is a relationship
between Hudig & Veder, and Hudig & Peters - same family,
but there seems to have been a bitter feud...

From the link provided by Barbara Tomlinson of The
National Maritime Museum: "The house flag of the Rotterdam Steam Ship
Co. A white rectangular flag with a blue five-pointed star in the upper
hoist corner and a blue letter 'E' in the fly. The flag is made of nylon
and is machine sewn. A rope and clip is attached."
It is the same pattern as the flags of Hudig
& Veder/Maatschappij Zeevaart. - but quite different from the flag
of Stoomvaart Maatschappij "Rotterdam"...

Under Stoomvaart Maatschappij 'Rotterdam' you placed a flag which belongs
to Hudig & Veder; it is the flag of NV Ertslijn, a company which took
into service two bulk-carriers in 1958 under the management of NV Scheepvaart
Mij. Zodiak, which was directed by the Rotterdam firm Hudig & Veder;
the flag with its blue star and letter E reminds of Hudig & Veder,
