Approved by the royal resolution of 2 October 1992, after a drawing by Stein Davidsen (http://www.hemsedal.kommune.no/om-hemsedal-kommune/organisasjonskart-hemsedal-kommune/ )
The above site also explain that the municipality wanted an animal in its arms, to represent its wildlife, but there was no special reason why they chose lyns among other possibilities, other then it is one of animals appearing in the municipal fauna.
