Blazon: På grøn grunn ei oppspringande gull gaupe. In English: Vert a lynx rampant or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 15 November 1991.
The green field represents the agriculture and forestry, the lynx is for the local nature.
If I understand the longer description at http://www.bygland.kommune.no/kommunevaapen.295217.nn.html the figure is depicted "armed" with white clows, eye and teeth and a red tongue.
