Blazon: På grøn grunn ein sølv hestesko. In English: Vert a horseshoe argent.
Approved by the royal resolution of 20 January 1989
(In this part of the world, one would never put a horseshoe like this. As a symbol of luck, it is supposed, according to the popular belief, to have the opening upwards, so the luck would fall in and gather at the bottom of the shoe, and should not be opened downwards, for the luck to drop out... I guess that this symbolic is not known in Norway...)
The horseshoe sybolizes the most important domestic animals in a mountain town like this one. A working horse and transportation mean through both summer and winter, it also stands for good luck and happiness.
