The Norwegian blazon is: I blått en vertical sølv trillingstreng med bredtannet snitt. In English that makles: Azure three pallets dancetty argent.
The arms (and flag, no doubt) were approved by the royal resolution of 14 May 1976. Drawn by Johan Matland.
[c2j87] mentions that the motto of the design is "hydropower and sparks" (i.e. vannkraft og gnister) refering to the water power as natural source used in the Sauda's industry - therefore standing for both natural and human characteristics of the municipality.
