Blazon: På raud grunn to gull drakehovud i skrå rekkje. In English: Gules two dragon heads bendwise.
Approved by the royal resolution of 18 December 1987 after a drawing by Inge Rotevatn. [c2j88]
The municipal web site explains that the dragon heads are from the Borgund wooden church, originating from ca. 1150, being among the oldest of the type and a landmark in the municipality.
Željko Heimer, 05 December 2015

Actually, both churches are wooden. The dragon heads are on the Borgund Stave Church. They are the decorations at the ends of the roof ridges like several stave churches have them.
