Coat of Arms

[COA of Rødøy]

Blazon: I sølv en liggende rød løve. In English: Argent a lion couchant gules.
Approved by the royal resolution of 12 February 1988 after a drawing by Olga Grimsmo Nilsen, former teacher in a local school. [c2j88] and http://www.rodoy.kommune.no/om-rodoy/kommunevapen/
The municipal name mean Red Island, and the most striking formation on the island is a large rock formation lookin somewhat like an ancient Sphynx, called the Rødøyløva - the Lion of Red Island. It seemed only natural to represent it on the municipal arms. The silver background is said to stand for the sea.
