Inspired by the New Zealand flag competition my home town Kaiapoi has opened a flag competition for a flag to represent it. The competition opened on December 6th 2015 and was due to run until December 21st but has been extended to run until January 29th 2016. The criteria for the flag design was that the flag include elements of Kaiapoi's history and heritage or geography. The winning flag would be 65 cm x 150 cm and would be announced at Kaiapoi on Waitangi Day February 6th (Waitangi Day being New Zealand's national day).
