It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

The arms are Argent a chestnut tree Vert eradicated of the same and with eight fruits Or open Gules flanked by two open books Or bound Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SAMBADE".
Meaning:
Sérgio Horta’ quotes the local government about the meaning of the arms: It says that the chestnut tree stands for the local importance of chestnut trees and that the books stand for local writers and the local’s erudition….

Sambade Commune is one of the 12 communes of the Alfândega da Fé municipality (q.v.); it had 2117 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 2.7 km².
