About the Flag

It is a fairly typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plainyellow background (village rank).

The arms are Gules an abased, embattled wall Argent masoned Sable above a sinister bendy pilgrim's baton Argent annexed a canteen (=water bottle) Or. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SANTIAGO MAIOR - CASTELO DE VIDE".
Meaning:
The embattled wall probably is symbolizing the local castle, whilst baton and bottle are attributes of St. James the Elder (Portuguese: Santiago Maior)
Source: I spotted this flag in the local tourist office on 1 October 2013.
